Overview
Mt. Naupa Campsite is a beginner-friendly summit camp in the City of Naga, Cebu. It sits around 584 meters above sea level and is used for hiking, overnight tent camping, sunrise viewing, sunset viewing, and quick weekend escapes from Cebu City.
This is a simple mountain campsite, not a resort campground. Campers come for the wide grassy areas, rolling hill views, cool night air, city lights, and clear-sky stargazing. The hike is short enough for first-time campers, but you still need to carry your own tent, water, food, jacket, and light.
The campsite is popular, so expect other hikers and campers on weekends. Go with a small group, set up before dark, and keep the camp clean.

How do you get to Mt. Naupa Campsite?
Drive or commute to Cogon Chapel in Barangay Cogon, Naga City, then hike 30–60 minutes to Mt. Naupa Campsite. From Cebu City, the drive to Cogon Chapel usually takes about 1.5 hours, depending on traffic, plus the short hike up.
Cogon Chapel is the practical jump-off for most campers. Local guides and porters are usually available near the chapel, and parking is limited near the road. If commuting, ride to Naga or Rikio, then take a habal-habal to Cogon Chapel.
The trail is mostly beginner-friendly, with minor slopes, rocky portions, mango-tree shade in parts, and a harder final uphill stretch before the campsite. Avoid night trekking if this is your first visit.
How much does camping at Mt. Naupa Campsite cost?
Overnight camping at Mt. Naupa Campsite is ₱50/person. Day use is ₱30/person. Parking fees are ₱50 for cars and ₱20 for motorcycles, so a camper arriving by car should budget ₱50/person camping plus the separate vehicle fee.
Bring cash in small bills for camping, parking, guide help, porter help, and habal-habal transport. Earlier travel guides mention lower entrance fees, but the current publicly posted rate for overnight camping is ₱50/person.
Guide fees are usually negotiable. Some local children or guides may offer help from the chapel, and a porter is useful if your tent, water, and food are heavy.
What amenities does Mt. Naupa Campsite have?
Mt. Naupa Campsite has a wide open tent area, basic local guide or porter help from the jump-off, and usually a small store near the campsite. It does not have confirmed electricity, showers, or a reliable drinking-water source at camp.
Bring your own drinking water. For an overnight stay, carry more than a day-hike bottle because the site is exposed and the hike back down still needs water. Bring snacks or full meals, since the small store should not be treated as a meal plan.
Toilet access is not clearly confirmed at the summit camp. Plan for basic mountain conditions, pack out trash, and ask at the jump-off about the current toilet setup. Dogs are not allowed on the listed trail. Bonfire rules are not clearly published, so ask before lighting any fire.
What do campers say about Mt. Naupa Campsite?
Campers describe Mt. Naupa as one of the easier mountain camps near Cebu City, with a short approach, a wide campsite, and good sunrise, sunset, and city-light views. It is beginner-friendly, but it still feels like a real camp once the night wind comes in.
The main warning is weather. A beach tent is a poor choice on the summit because the night can be cold and windy. Use a proper tent, bring a jacket or blanket, and carry a headlamp if you are staying overnight.
This is a good one-night escape if you want to leave after work or early Saturday, get a short hike in, sleep outside, and be back in the city the next day.
When is the best time to camp at Mt. Naupa Campsite?
Camp at Mt. Naupa Campsite when the forecast is dry, especially if you want stars, sunrise, or sunset. Afternoon starts work well for sunset. Overnight campers can wake early for sunrise and possible morning fog or sea-of-clouds views.
Avoid wet nights and strong wind if you are new to camping. The trail is short, but mud, darkness, and loaded backpacks make it harder. For weekends and holidays, arrive early enough to choose a flat tent spot before the campsite fills up.
